Emerald City Theatre Teachers

Ellen Crabill has been a preschool - 3rd grade teacher for the past 10 years while developing her theatre portfolio as an actor and instructor. She has also been a part time nanny and swim teacher. She loves stepping into imaginary worlds and remembering how simple and enjoyable life can be through a child’s eyes. During her spare time she enjoys her feline friends, krinkle puff and magora, watching re-runs of “Little House on the Prairie” or “The Office”, and writing dramatic and comedic material for film and stage. She is currently performing in The Diary of Anne Frank and directing a one act play with preschool -second graders.

Kimmie Copmanik-Warner received a B.S. in Kinesiology from Indiana State University. After realizing she wasted a lot of time and money, she moved to Chicago to study her true love, improvisation. She is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory, 10, and Annoyance Theatres. Kimmie is a faculty member of Act One Studios. She is also an artist in residence and teaches at The Second City. She has directed numerous shows all over the city including such venues as: Old Town School of Folk Music, Taste of Chicago, Theatre Building, Chopin, and Act One Studios. Kimmie is a founding member of the critically acclaimed sketch group Dolphins of Damnation. She has performed at The Second City Unhinged, Donny’s Skybox, The Annoyance, 10, The Apollo Theatre, and the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival.

Heather Elam has been teaching at Emerald City for the Summer Camp and after school programs since the summer of 2005. She is going on her10th year teaching pre-school at Ronald Knox Montessori School. She has a degree in Theatre from Miami University with a focus on directing and stage management. She has written and directed children’s theatre, co-created and co-directed a summer camp in theatre and art for Summer Kicks in Chicago and for HeartLight Chicago in Palatine. In 2003 Heather was the Fine Arts teacher for HeartLight School in Palatine where she developed and taught a curriculum for visual and performing arts. On staff at Magic Management, Heather can be seen balloon sculpting and face painting at parties and has taught magic and balloon sculpting at after-school programs and Harper College’s summer camp for children. And, for the past 9 years she has been the Company Stage Manager for GayCo Productions, a sketch comedy group in Chicago and has also run tech for many other scripted and improvised shows as well as dance concerts in the city.

David Ello is an accomplished actor, harpist, pianist, and writer and has been delighting audiences with his talents for over 20 years. He has graced many with his musical charm at weddings, birthday parties, seasonal celebrations, and other events, including the Lance Armstrong Gala in 2006 held in Austin, Texas to raise awareness for the fight against cancer. As an educator, Mr. Ello has enriched the lives of many young people through teaching music and theatre in both private and group settings, workshops, summer camps and churches. He has collaborated with multiple educational institutions, including Black Bear Academy in Chicago, Houston Independent School District, and Houston's InterActive Theatre. During David's time with InterActive, he managed as well as performed in the touring unit and directed for the mainstage, touring, and public school residency program and continues to impact students on a regular basis.

Shannon Evans hails from beautiful Minnesota, has been a resident teaching artist with Emerald City since 2004. She works throughout Chicago as a director, producer, designer, technician, painter, and educator. She received her B.A. in theatre arts and philosophy from Loyola University Chicago. Shannon is an artistic associate with Prop Thtr and a proud company member of TUTA Theatre Chicago where she also serves as Managing Director. With Emerald City, Shannon has taught ages 3-18 years through Theatre School classes, after school programs at local elementary schools, an After School Matters program for teens, birthday party theatre workshops, and-- her favorite-- summer camp! She also enjoys face painting at Emerald City events, where she believes there is no such thing as too much glitter.

Ty Golde is a proud Bostonian and has been teaching and acting around Chicago for the last five years. Although teaching theatre is his primary focus, he is also a teacher in Gymnastics, Karate, Sports and Dance. He's had the great privilege to teach for The Little Gym, Looking Glass Theatre, Washington Street Players, and Emerald City Theatre. As an actor he has performed with Adventure Stage Theatre, Chemically Imbalanced Theatre, Colaboraction, and Emerald City Theatre. It is his great passion to teach kids to be active physically, creatively and mentally, and he instills those focuses in all his teaching endeavors.

Melissa Harrison is excited to be teaching for Emerald City, where she is currently performing in Dr. Dolittle. She is a recent graduate of Wayne State University with a degree in Theatre, and has also studied at the Moscow Art Theatre in Moscow, Russia. She taught theatre camps at the Marquis Theatre in Northville, MI for the last seven summers, and appeared in numerous productions throughout the Detroit, MI area. Melissa is also a private voice and piano instructor, and is looking forward to sharing the joy of musical theatre with her Emerald City students!

Matt Holzfeind is very excited to be teaching at Emerald City. He is an actor in Chicago, and has worked with many theatre companies in town, including Lookingglass, Goodman, T.U.T.A, Writers', The House, Eclipse, Collaboraction, and Chicago Children's Theatre, to name a few. He is also a Company member of The Strange Tree Group, where he has appeared in multiple productions, and is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Theatre and Drama. When he's not teaching or acting, you can most likely find him biking somewhere around the city... all 365.

Melissa Law is originally from Colorado and holds a BA in theatre and music from Lawrence University in Wisconsin. She has also taught at the Renaissance School for the Arts (WI), directed at Green Bay High School, and taught for Apple Tree Theatre. As an actress in Chicago, she has worked for Metropolis Performing Arts Center, Trap Door Theatre, Stage Right Productions and Cornservatory. Melissa is Emerald City’s Education Manager and has taught classes and camps over the past year here. She loves teaching life skills through the magical world of theatre!

Lisa Liaromatis is originally from the suburbs of Chicago and has recently returned after a 6-year stint in New York! She holds a BS in musical theatre and a minor in dance from Ball State University. Lisa has taught both in NY and Chicago (ECTC and Chicago Park District) in addition to performing as an actor. She has been seen in two Off-Broadway productions, numerous AIDS benefit concerts, and staged readings/musical reviews in NYC. Here in Chicago Lisa has been fortunate enough to perform with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, BoHo Theatre Ensemble, Metropolis Performing Arts Center, and Theatre Building Chicago. Lisa is extremely excited to guide your child through this magical journey of creating and learning!

Jacque Leuken received her BFA in Acting from Syracuse University. Upon graduation she moved to Chicago to work with Steppenwolf Theatre Co. as the Assistant Coordinator for their summer acting intensive "The School at Steppenwolf" where she served as a sub for classes in both improv and scene study and took on the position of Education Assistant with Victory Gardens Theatre. She is currently a resident teaching artist with Emerald City Theatre where she has also served as their Education Coordinator and Lead Teacher/Director for them with Maggie Daley's After School Matters program in the Chicago Public Schools. In addition to her work with Emerald City Jacque is a Mentor with Redmoon's Dramagirls program, a Teacher and Director with the Eileen Boevers Performing Arts Workshop and a Director for TYA at Apple Tree Theatre.

Caleb Probst is from Michigan originally, and has called Chicago home for nearly four years. He holds a BFA with Honors in Drama and Education Studies, and loves finding ways to combine the two. In addition to teaching for Emerald City, Caleb also works as an actor and a director, both in Chicago and in various theaters around the country. He has acted in national tours of Romeo and Juliet, Oedipus, A Christmas Carol, and Oliver Twist. Other favorite credits include West Side Story, The Importance of Being Earnest, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, and Measure for Measure. For many of these productions, Caleb also taught accompanying workshops to students who attended the performances. Perhaps the most memorable, was a stage combat workshop following Romeo and Juliet that he and two other actors used to teach non-violent conflict resolution to incarcerated youth. Caleb is eagerly looking forward to more memorable encounters during Emerald City’s fall session of classes, and hopes the students are too!.

Lisa Siciliano is an actress, director, writer, producer, and educator who recently moved to Chicago from Cleveland, OH. She loves teaching theatre and has been an instructor for numerous programs from pre-k through college! Since moving to the Windy City in the fall of 2008, Lisa has taught with Lifeline Theatre, American Theatre Company, ARCC Ballet, and, of course, Emerald City. She is co-founder of Lively Productions, a New York theater company (www.livelyproductions.org). Favorite roles as an actress include Kate in Taming of the Shrew for the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, where she still serves on the board of advisors after acting as associate artistic director in the summer of 2008, and Reggie in Some Girl(s) by Neil Labute, a role which she originated. Lisa was recently seen as Grez in Red Noses at the National Pastime Theatre produced by Hubris Productions. Tim Soszko is very happy to be teaching for Emerald City Theatre. He has also taught with IO Chicago, Elmhurst Children's Theater, After School Matters, Barrel Of Monkeys, and Columbia College to name a few. Tim writes and performs with The Cupid Players. He's a budding voiceover artist and he has performed in a number of Emerald City Theatre productions.

Jacqueline Stone hails from Rocky Point, NY and has a B.A. in Theatre from the Univ. of Maryland. Her other training credits include The Second City, Improv Olympic, The Annoyance, and Victory Gardens. For the past fifteen years, she has been acting, directing, teaching, and writing across the United States. She is proud to be a founding company member and Executive Director of TUTA Theatre Chicago. She has appeared in their productions of The Wedding, The Hour, ALICE, The Little Prince, Birds, A Still Life in Color, and Uncle Vanya. She is also a founding company member of the acclaimed all-women's improv group Sirens, with whom she has helped create and perform in over a hundred shows, including their Critic's Choice show, Chicken Scratch. Other theatres she has worked for include Prop Thtr, Chicago Dramatists, The Second City, Improv Olympic, BackStage Theatre Co., Brown Couch Theatre Co., Bailiwick Rep, WNEP Theatre, National Theatre of Perf. Arts, and Fuzzy Co. Jacqueline is a faculty member at The Second City, Columbia College, TUTA Theatre, and Education Director for Emerald City Theatre Company. She has taught numerous acting and improv workshops across the country including the Chicago Improv Festival, Miami Improv Festival, Duke University and many more.

Cancellation Policy
Emerald City has the right to cancel a class one week prior to the start date. Refunds will be processed if a class is cancelled. No refunds available unless spot can be filled from the waiting list. If spot can be filled a refund less a $50 administrative fee will be given.
