If you take a mouse to school
September-November 2008
for ages 3-6

Based on the book by Laura Numeroff
Based on Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond’s national bestseller, when a young boy takes a mouse to school the day’s events tumult into hilarity and hijinx! Proving learning can be fun and fabulous, this is a world premiere adaptation using Emerald City’s distinctive brand of audience involvement. Finish your homework, grab your backpack, meet the bus, and get ready for a day of school like no other!

Production Note: If You Take a Mouse to School is replacing If You Give a Pig a Party in the 2008-2009 season.

Look for Gateway Notes throughout from Associate Artistic Director Ernie Nolan and Education Director Jackie Stone. These notes will help grown-ups understand how to use each production to develop a confident, loving and imaginative child:

Ernie says - Our season opener is sure to tickle your funny bone. Full of clowning and chaos, MOUSE is sure to be physical theatre the whole family will enjoy!

Jackie says - Our hero and lovable mouse have to solve a series of problems. In doing so, they learn how to make smart decisions and be responsible.

November-December 2008
for ages 3+

Christmas is coming and Hansel and Gretel dream of a sweet filled holiday, but things aren’t easy when you’re a poor woodcutter’s child. Trying to have some fun, the duo breaks the rules and stumbles upon a gigantic candy house in the forest. Little do they know an unforgettable adventure awaits that will teach them the power of teamwork and love. A world premiere holiday classic especially created for Emerald City audiences by Ralph Covert of Ralph’s World and G. Riley Mills, the creators of A Nutcracker Christmas.

Gateway Notes:
Ernie says - Not only will this Emerald City original have rockin’ songs, but also eye popping visuals!

Jackie says - Hansel and Gretel discover that healthy emotional responses are the name of the game when we are with family, especially with our brothers and sisters.

January-March 2009
for ages 5+

Come along and learn how to talk to the animals! Follow nine and a half year old Tommy Stubbins as he meets everyone’s favorite animal doctor, John Dolittle and his friends Polynesia the Parrot, Chee Chee the Monkey, Jip the Dog, Gub Gub the Pig, and Dab Dab the Duck. Join them on the adventure of a lifetime as they travel from quiet Puddleby-on-the-Marsh to the bottom of the sea to meet The Great Glass Snail. This world premiere production will be a whirlwind of puppetry, music, and mirth created by Associate Artistic Director Ernie Nolan.

Gateway Notes:
Ernie says - Yet again Emerald City will explore the art of puppetry in new and exciting ways. DOLITTLE promises to incorporate hand and marionette puppets in order to bring the animal world to life.

Jackie says - Our young hero sets goals to achieve his dreams, and in turn becomes a leader we can all look up to.

February-April 2009
for ages 3+

Anybody who’s anybody is going to the Royal Winter Ball. Anybody this is except Cinderella, whose feet are such an usual size there are no shoes to fit them. But with the help of a fairy godmother and some sensible footwear, a happy ending is certainly in sight! Created by Emerald City Artistic Associates Alyn Cardarelli and Steve Goers.

Gateway Notes:
Ernie says - This company favorite has a melodic, toe tappin’ score that will have you whistling the tunes long after the performance is through.

Jackie says - Cinderella knows the key to a happy and healthy life; positive thinking and doing things for others is rewarded in life!
